Why ToneMatch EQ?
Ever wonder why your mix doesn't quite sound like the records you compare it to? The difference is usually tonal balance - the overall shape of the frequency spectrum. ToneMatch EQ closes that gap automatically, giving you a professional frequency balance without hours of manual EQ tweaking, and without even needing to hunt down a reference file. It is a match EQ, a mix bus tone shaper and a reference matching tool in one plugin.
How It Works
Two Simple Steps:
- CAPTURE - Play your mix for 10-30 seconds so the plugin can analyze its tonal profile
- PICK A PROFILE - Up to five suggested profiles appear instantly. Click through them and choose by ear
Custom Reference - Load any audio file (WAV, AIFF, MP3, FLAC) as your own tonal target. It appears alongside the suggested profiles as REF, so you can A/B your reference track against the suggestions and pick the winner.
Dynamic Mode
Flip on DYNAMIC and the correction stops being a fixed curve. It follows your mix moment to moment - working harder where your balance drifts from the target and relaxing where it already matches. Quiet verses and dense choruses each get exactly the correction they need. The REACT knob sets how strongly it responds, and the display animates in real time so you can watch it work.
Shape It Your Way
AMOUNT - Scale the correction from 0 to 100% in real time, artifact-free.
EQ SMOOTH - Morph the correction from precise and surgical to broad and musical with one knob.
DE-MUD - Automatically finds the muddiest region of the corrected sound and cleans up that low-mid buildup, with a solo button to hear exactly what it's targeting and built-in compensation so the area never sounds hollowed out.
MIX & OUTPUT - Perfectly phase-aligned parallel blend, plus a +/-24 dB output trim for clean gain staging.
True A/B Bypass - The in-plugin bypass is latency-matched and click-free. Toggling never shifts timing, so you hear the real difference, not a timing artifact.
Gain Compensated - Output level stays matched to input level automatically. What you hear is the actual tonal difference, not a loudness illusion.
Spectral Display - Your mix, the target and the live correction curve in one analyzer-style view, on a log frequency scale with the familiar spectrum slope you know from your favourite analyzers.
Pro Workflow: Section-Based Matching
For the best results, match specific sections rather than entire songs. Capture just your chorus and match it, then use a separate instance for the verse. Automate between instances for different parts of your arrangement. This gives much more precise, musical results.
Built for the Mix Bus
ToneMatch EQ is designed for full mixes - your mix bus, master bus, a stereo bounce or a stem-mastering chain - not for individual instruments or stems. It works on the overall tonal balance of a finished piece of music, which is exactly where a match EQ belongs.
And it isn't only for mixes that are already there. If your balance is off - too dark, too thin, too boomy, too harsh - ToneMatch EQ will pull it a long way back toward how a commercial record sits, fast. It won't repair fundamental problems like bad arrangement levels, phase issues or a badly recorded source, but it will make a rough mix sound noticeably more finished, and it turns a good mix into a polished one. Use it as a starting point when you're stuck, or as the final polish when you're nearly done.
